Letter regarding school opening January 5th

Dear Parents,
St Bridget’s Emergency start of term arrangements
 Opening online from Tuesday 5th January for all classes.  Limited opening at the school from Tuesday 5th January for parents with key worker status or other essential school attendance.
With the new variant of Covid-19 representing a particularly high proportion of the new cases reported in the County, Colin Cox, the Cumbria Director of Public Health, had written to the Government urging a delay in the return of primary school pupils into schools.  Unlike London, also a tier 4 area, I understand this request has been turned down by the Government.
The Governors of St Bridget’s CE School have a legal duty to keep pupils and staff safe.  This includes having sufficient staff ratios.  In the current circumstances I am unable to guarantee this.  As a result we are compelled to move to remote learning.  Initially this will be for this week.  However, I will be monitoring the situation every day, and also the Government position may change.
If you are a parent with key worker status or there is another essential reason for school attendance and you cannot keep your child at home, please contact me directly by email.  Otherwise, you will be contacted by your child’s class teacher and work will be signposted from our website.
I regret the last minute nature of this communication which is unfortunately unavoidable.
 Yours sincerely,

Ruth Colley
