St. Bridget's C.E. School

Letting Our Lights Shine

Welcome

Religious Education

At St Bridget's C of E Primary School, our aims are:

  • To provide a Christian education for our children, whilst also developing an appreciation of the major religions in the local community and in the wider world.
  • To encourage children to become curious and reflective about the world in which they live.
  • To foster a positive attitude towards others, showing respect, understanding and tolerance of all people’s differences and their beliefs.
  • To gain knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews appreciating diversity, continuity and change within the religions and worldviews being studied.
  • To engage with challenging questions of meaning and purpose raised by human existence and experience.
  • To recognise the concept of religion and its continuing influence on Britain’s cultural heritage and in the lives of individuals and societies in different times, cultures and places.
  • To explore their own religious, spiritual and philosophical ways living, believing and thinking.

As a school, we follow the Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education Syllabus for RE (2022) which fulfils all legal requirements and the RE Statement of Entitlement from the Church of England Education Office 2019. The Blackburn Syllabus meets the requirements of the Cumbria agreed syllabus (2023).

During RE lessons, our children learn about different faiths including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Our curriculum is taught on a two-year rolling cycle.
