Welcome

Special Educational Needs

At St Bridget's, the learning of all pupils is assessed regularly and where pupils are not making the expected levels of progress a plan is put in place to support the child in making progress. Parents will be kept informed of the support needed. The plan is then implemented by the teacher and reviewed regularly by the SENCO. When targets are met, new targets will be set to support the child in making progress with their learning. Miss Walsh is the SENCO.

Types of Special Needs identified at St Bridget's come under four categories. These are: Cognition and Learning, Communication and Interaction, Emotional, Social and Mental and Sensory and Physical. We cater for children with a variety of needs including:

  • Specific learning difficulties
  • Moderate learning difficulties
  • Speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Autism Spectrum Conditions
  • Social, emotional and mental health difficulties

The teachers work closely with the headteacher and SENCO to meet the needs of individual pupils and staff receive regular training on specific educational needs.

For children with Education Health and Care plans, regular meetings take place to assess how the child is progressing towards their targets.

Children with SEND may have involvement with the following professionals, who school will work closely alongside:

  • Educational Psychologist
  • Speech and Language Therapist
  • Specialist advisory teachers
  • Health visitors
  • School nurse team
